the one I forgot to forget. . .

The One I Forgot to Forget

by: whitney a. cunningham

The one I forgot to forget is standing right beside me,

And we’re going through the motions, gears winding up inside me.

Wondering why and how life ended up this way..

What did I do that was so wrong to deserve this kind of pain?

Oh the difference of one day.

With a lifetime of memories, packed up and stored away,

Remembering the good times, not knowing what to say

It’s the good times and bad times that make this world make sense,

When life is dangling on the line holding on to a sixpence

You’re the memory of tomorrow, the highlight of the past,

I guess some things aren’t meant to happen.. I wish you both the best

Oh I forgot to forget you.

I forgot to forget you, its not a simple thing I’ll add,

All the bad times and the good times are mixed up in the bag,

All the misfits have their counterparts, as happy as can be

I forgot to forget you and this is the price I pay,

There are still so many things that I wish I could say.

The curtains’ finally going down,

And the crowd gets up to leave,

While I’m just sitting there waiting, hoping for reprieve

The lights go dark, the room Is black,

My spirits once bubbly have now turned flat.

The memories of yesteryear are haunting me like ghosts,

I’m Trying to forget them, but just never getting close

Why do I deserve this curse Lord.. I’m just tryin to get by

Trying to forget those crazy things that all stored up inside

A time and a place for everything, as some people say

You’re the one I forgot to forget but by now you’ve slipped away

How do I live through this nightmare of wanting so much more,

When you’re the only single thing I’ve been wishin for

I tried so hard to pass the time but the curtain finally fell

I’m living in a bad movie, does that ring a bell?

Time ran short on my watch, now I’m living alone in hell

I tried to hard to forget you and I wish you well.

You’re a suitcase full of memories tied up down to the ground

I’ve tried so hard to forget you, but its not an easy thing I’ve found,

You’re in my heart and in my dreams,

But you’re just the one I forgot to forget.
